1. The origin of Hetu Song
The verse of the Book of Changes reads: "Heaven is one and earth is two, heaven is three and earth is four, heaven is five and earth is six, heaven is seven and earth is eight, heaven is nine and earth is ten, days are five, earth is five, and five are all together. Days are twenty and five, earth is thirty, and the number of heaven and earth is fifty and five, so there is a change and the ghosts and spirits are also done." This is the basis of the river map song.
2. A brief description of the river Map Song
(1) In the song, "Heaven" represents the mathematical term "odd number", also known as "Yang"; "Earth" represents "even number", also known as "Yin". The directions of east, west, south and north in the River Chart are opposite to those on current maps.
(2) The River Chart has five celestial numbers, namely 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9, whose sum is 25; while there are also five terrestrial numbers, namely 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10, whose sum is 30. Therefore, the total sum of the numbers of heaven and earth is 55.
(3) Each column is composed of one yin and one yang, arranged in the four directions. One is creation and the other is completion. The difference between odd and even numbers is always "five".
(4) The heaven and earth in the song represent the two vital energies, namely the two poles. From them, the five vital energies of water, fire, wood, metal and earth (i.e. the five elements) are generated. Each belongs to a certain direction, thus it is called the River Chart, or the "Chart of Two Poles and Five Elements". The five elements take "five" as the root, located in the center, neither leaning to one side nor the other, moving yet harmonious. Harmony is the way of heaven and earth.

Heads are three and tails are two (odd number is Yang, even number is Yin, positive number is Yang, back is Yin)
Another interpretation of Yin and Yang is that there are three parts of Yin and Yang
—————— Yang Yao is composed of three -- (Qianhexagrams are nine)
—— —— Yin Yao is one less in the middle (Kun Gua for six)
That is, Yang is sound and Yin is deficient
This is a more reasonable explanation for the number of heads and tails of the coin

Odd numbers are yang and even numbers are yin.
From the perspective of the River Chart, the sky is one and the earth is two, the sky is three and the earth is four, the sky is five and the earth is six, the sky is seven and the earth is eight, the sky is nine and the earth is ten. The sky represents Yang, and the odd numbers 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 are Yang, while the even numbers 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 are Yin. From this, it can be inferred that odd numbers are Yang and even numbers are Yin.
When a yao is in its proper position, it is called "in the right place", and when it is not in its proper position, it is called "out of place". The first, third, fifth, seventh and top positions are yang positions. When a yang yao is in an odd position, it is in the right place. If a yin yao is in a yang position or a yang yao is in a yin position, it is out of place.
